After all the sweets and treats from Halloween this week, our bodies are going to need a bit of a reboot. Especially since the holiday season is right around the corner!

So we’ve come up with a challenge that will detox our systems and help restore balance in our bodies. We love a good challenge at MaxPo and this one might be our toughest yet…

Starting November 1st, we are challenging all our clients (and ourselves) to completely ditch refined sugars, including high-fructose corn syrup and artificial sweeteners. This is not only about avoiding cupcakes or switching up your daily Double Double for a black coffee. The challenge is to also recognize and eliminate all hidden sugars from your menu. Sugar, including HFCS and artificial sweeteners, is in everything from almond milk to salad dressing. If you’ve never paid attention to labels before, you’re going to become a pro.

Start this week by looking at what’s in your fridge. Read the ingredients on your ketchup, yogurt and juices. You might be surprised how often sugar (or one of its counterparts) is listed near the top of the list. If you’re unsure what certain ingredients are, use Google to find out.

So why go no sugar? Over the past few years, it has become apparent that excessive consumption of refined and artificial sugars cause a host of health problems. There are a number of resources available that outline this, so we won’t go into it now. But we believe in sovereign health – meaning taking your health into your own hands. Read your labels and ask questions. Find out what is in your food and whether or not it should be in your body. Ultimately, your health is in your hands.

Since we will be doing the challenge with you, we will be posting about our experiences and sharing great resources and shopping ideas. We also highly encourage you to do this with a friend, so you can motivate each other. Let’s see what sweet things will happen when we ditch the sugar together!
